A tribute to Joanne

It was one year ago today that my inspiration for this walk…Joanne…passed away from breast cancer. Joanne’s oldest son Dylan has a girlfriend named Jennifer who made this wonderful video to remember Joanne. Jennifer is 14/15 years old and to honour Joanne and her whole incredible “friamily” (great term Mike made up that means family and friends together in one word) this will be my only posting to the blog today. I think this caring video from a young lady says it all and it reinforces what our shirts say at the end of the walk “Leave your mark. I did” It is quite clear that Joanne did and will continue to leave her mark for years and generations to come.

To Joanne, it was an honour to meet you. You were my inspiration to walk in the seven cities.

With love and thanks,
M.J.

Thanks MJ. Thanks for being who you are. Being a friend and a shoulder to cry on. I thought it was a fitting end to my walk this weekend to see you at the end. Getting a hug from you was just what I needed at that point with all the emotions and physical ailments.

Did I mention I could hardly walk to the car!?! hahahahaha

Congrats on your journey this year. You've become an inspiration to many now. Keep up the fight and stay in touch.

Oh yeah I have your numbers now so you can't run away..

Muhahahahah

Hey MJ:
What a wonderful way to memoralize someone. Beautiful pictures, now I have a face to put to the name. The video was very well done!

The cover song is one of my favourites. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by a Hawaiian gentleman named "Iz" Israel Kamakawiwo'ole who passed away as well....hope he's singing it to Joanne in heaven... I first heard this song years ago at the end of the movie "Finding Forrester" as Sean Connery is riding away on his bicycle. It chokes me up every time I hear it. I think it was a beautiful choice of song for Joanne's video.

Love, Sylvia
