Winnipeg weekend now cancelled

Hello everyone,
I am very sad to announce that Manitoba Cancer Care has decided to cancel the Weekend to End Breast Cancer next year. It is my understanding that they have decided to focus their fundraising on the capital fund for the hospital building. While I understand this somewhat...would it not be better to raise money for research to try and prevent this disease rather than to build wings of hospitals for it. Is there not some compromise that can be reached here. When you hear about the amount of money that has been raised for the research you know that by walking in this weekend you are making a difference. In the past, approximately $200,000 went to research of breast cancer, with these walks, millions have been raised for research. I am not sure I understand how they reached this conclusion.
There is a petition website that you can go to sign this petition and the address is www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-the-winnipeg-weekend-to-end-breast-cancer-event.html I just signed the petition tonight and I see that close to 350 people have signed. I assume that most of these are walkers so out of 1100 walkers I think we can assume that at least 25% have responded. That is a pretty good ratio I think.
One of the ladies we walked with, their family member is going through tests for breast cancer. We know that everything will be OK and Pat and I are sending their family all positive thoughts. I thought of them all throughout August. Over dinner in Edmonton Pat and I agreed, if the event is saved...Pat and I will be walking in Winnipeg next year with a great team called 4-A-Breast...and as Pat says even though there are five of us (Barb, Shelley, Shelley, Pat and myself) we will not have to change the name of the team. There may be five walking...but.... 4-A-Breast. I hope you guys will have us and if the event can not be saved...Toronto and the Centurians would welcome you with open arms.
With love and thanks,
M.J.
