Karen, Joseph and Chad

Hello everyone,
I would like to "introduce" you to three other people who are just as crazy (and one crazier) than Pat and I. They are Karen and Joseph from the Cambridge area and Chad from Stoney Creek.
Karen (Coleman) and Joseph (Calderone) are doing all seven cities this year also. Joseph's Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and the name of their team is "4breast reason". Karen and Joseph have had trouble raising money and have personally put up most of the money on their own to do this. They are a very nice couple and we enjoy seeing them at each of the walks. Here is a little story of what some people do for the walks. Joseph works at a plant that makes engines for Ford. He and Karen walked in Edmonton, they took the red eye home from Edmonton and went straight to work from the airport and stood on his feet for his 8 hour shift. I saw him in Vancouver and asked him how he felt on Monday and he smiled a little and admitted "it was a little tough but it was OK". A little tough? It was OK? Unbelievable. Then to get on a plane the next Friday and do it all over again. Very inspiring.
Then there is Chad. Chad has walked in every city since the walks have started. Vancouver was his 20th walk. He has raised enough money to do 20 walks over the last four years. He has taken that time away from his job and his weekends to do 20 walks. Incredible. He walks in memory of his mother-in-law and his mother was just diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. He has become a fixture at the walks and just about everybody knows Chad.
I must also mention that these people also camp at all of these. I can not imagine camping for one walk never mind camping at each one when we are doing them three weekends in a row. My idea of camping or roughing it is not having a chocolate on my pillow when I get into bed at the Westin/Sheraton each night.
The other thing I should mention....all three of them have signed up again next year for each city. Pat and I...Toronto and Winnipeg (if they bring it back). My hat is off to all three of them. Incredible people, incredible inspiration.
With love and thanks,
M.J.

Hey MJ:
Karen, Joseph and Chad are angels. How else can one describe their commitment and dedication in doing all the Walks. Their fundraising efforts will make a difference in the fight against breast cancer, maybe their particular dollars donated will be the ones research needs to find the CURE. I hope it is in our immediate future. It never hurts to have a positive dream.
Love, Sylvia
